The first concert at which students of The Maribor Conservatory presented their own compositions took place in 2007 when Alenka Bervar, the head of the Professional Music Training Department, encouraged students’ creativity and helped them with composing as well with putting their compositions on stage.

She has been a mentor for young composers ever since, joined by two fellow teachers Zeqirja Ballata and since 2010 Robert Kamplet.

Young composers write their compositions in different styles and genres, for various ensembles and choirs. Often they even conduct their compositions, which requires more skills and knowledge students usually acquire with the help of their teachers outside regular lessons, in their free time.

All the compositions performed at the concert are compiled in a booklet, given to young composers at the end of a school year.

Students frequently present their compositions outside the school, at events such as Prešeren Competition, various performances, competitions, seminars like EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association).

They also take part in summer schools for young composers in Murska Sobota, organised by Glasbena Mladina (Musical Youth).
